The prime minister insists that an income-guarantee scheme for farmers would raise the price of rice. He is preparing to meet with Vietnam to discuss the rice market early next year.
In his weekly television program, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva talked about the Mekong River nations summit in Japan. Abhisit said that he had an opportunity to talk with the leader of Vietnam about the rice market.
From market evaluation in Thailand and Vietnam, the leaders of both countries believe that the rice market is heading in a good direction for next year.
The prime minister also insists that the agricultural products price guarantee scheme, which has replaced the price-pledging scheme, will raise the price of the rice.
Despite some concerns, Abhisit has asked for everyone's confidence that the government will be able to solve any issue.
The prime minister has also reaffirmed the success of the summit in Japan, which was attended by Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
During the summit, the leaders discussed cooperation and Japan's role in the development of the region.
They also signed the Tokyo Declaration which says that Japan will give financial assistance by providing low interest loans worth approximately 185 billion baht for infrastructure and water resources developments in the region.
The loan will also be spent on training in new technology. The development cooperation is aimed at increasing the efficiency of ASEAN.
