Commerce min to propose revised rice trade act to cabinet on Tuesday.
A source within the Government House revealed that the Commerce Ministry will discuss a draft of the revised Rice Trade Act at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow.
The revised draft is aimed at updating the law governing rice trade to ensure it is appropriate for the state of present economy.
A committee on rice trade will be established under the Internal Trade Department and its director-general will serve as secretary of the committee who will propose a plan to the committee to eliminate obstacles hindering rice trade and find way to promote rice trade.
The committee will monitor the state of rice trade and will have the authority to send out officers to question rice sellers and check their licenses.
Any seller whose license had been revoked for less than two years is forbidden to sell rice.
Unauthorized rice sellers are not only fined up to 100,000 baht, but are also subject to fines of 1,000 baht for each day of violation.
Rice sellers who are found to have expired licenses will be fined 10,000 baht.
