Recently, the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China has issued the first inspection standard of Thailand Fragrance rice for degree of purity. The standard was drafted jointly by the Xiamen Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau and Chinese Academy of Inspection & Quarantine, which are expected to be carried out this May, reports Xiamen Daily.
According to statistics, China imports 200 thousand tons of Thailand Fragrance rice every year, with 10 thousand tons in Xiamen. The price of it remains $US1,100 per ton, twice as ordinary rice. For this reason, a lot of artificial Thailand Fragrance rice appears in the market.
It is reported that there are three methods in making artificial Thailand rice, replacing it in the process of packaging, replacing it with Chinese long grained rice and rice with essence.
Thailand rice used to be inspected according to sanitation indexes, so it was difficult to prevent artificial Thailand Fragrance rice. In the wake of the event of artificial Thailand Fragrance rice, people are paying more attention to its quality.
Three ways in the inspection standard can be used to distinguish Thailand Fragrance rice, including a DNA technological test, sense organ test and boiled test, with the latter two ways more available and effective. In detail, the tests are smell, observing the shape of the rice and boiling.
