The director general of the Rice Department is set to propose the government to hold registration for an income guarantee scheme for jasmine rice farmers in Surin province.

Jasmine rice farmers in Surin's Chumphon Buri district have demanded that the government provide them with access to the income guarantee scheme to solve the declining rice price and prevent adulteration of rice products with inferior grains.

Rice Department Director General Prasert Kosalwit, in his capacity as secretary to the National Rice Policy Committee, said Surin is designated as a pilot province for growing off-season jasmine rice.

Prasert noted a study showed that the rice crop is of high quality, but it has not yet been registered with the government's income guarantee scheme.

The director general stated that he will present the National Rice Policy Board with the details and propose it adopt the scheme for jasmine rice farmers in the province.
